Kid friendly salads are a tricky thing to master. Some kids don’t like when foods touch, some kids don’t like veggies and some kids just don’t like to eat anything green. When you google “Kid friendly salads” you get a slew of bizarre marshmallow salads with pineapple topped with cool-whip. Well that’s not very nutritious is it? It sounds like something out of a retro cookbook doesn’t it? Also, please check out those hilarious retro recipes. They might make you a little queasy but you’ll be surprised just how many jello recipes there are out there… Lime cheese salad? No thanks.
Kid salads have to have a few things: some greens, a protein your kid likes (think bacon or chicken) a creamy palatable dressing and something sweet. Those things can be switched around like maybe a raspberry vinegrette for your something sweet or maybe it’s craisins or fruit. The creamy salad dressings that tend to win kids over are Ranch or Caesar. There are actually brands now that make salad dressings with yogurt instead and they taste just like the original so you don’t have that creamy dressing guilt.
I’ll have a post this weekend for some kid friend salad dressings but for now we have some salad inspiration to get you revved up and hopefully experimental! These are making me hungry which says a lot because I have salad every day for lunch.
